22 JUNE 1283 DAFYDD III CAPTURED AT CASTELL DOLBADARN: Welsh Independence Brought To An End - All Over But For The Screams!

.
In the good old days of Cofiwn (see at http://Cofiwn.blogspot.com), we would have bothered but now, who cares? Not Cadw that's for sure (go see over at http://ymgyrchtreftadaeth.blospot.com/ ) But anyone out there who does, even know about, let alone remember that 22 Mehefin 1283 was the date upon which Dafydd III brawd Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Llywelyn III 'Tywysog Cymru' was captured at Castell Dolbadarn. This makes it the 725th Anniversary on 22 Mehefin 2008. I have mentioned this in previous post in this blog and shall be dealing with related matters over at companion blog at http://brenhiolcymru.blogspot.com/ .

Now Dafydd III is not everyones 'Cup of Tea', given all the problems he caused his brother, and for sure Edward I was very peeved about Dafydd ap Gruffydd. Edward I was to get in some real vicious revenge on Dafydd later in 1283, on 3 Hydref in Shrewsbury. Dafydd was to be Hung, Drawn & Quatered, a bloody final post script, his screams would be joined by the anguished screams of his Children who over the years ahead would be terribly mistreated in English dungeons. Plant Dafydd and other remaining children of native dynasties were to become the ''disappeared ones'' whose anonymous deaths are not fully reported or recorded, and are worthy of our rememberance at any commemorative event held at Dolbadarn, as one off or as an annual commemoration. A related idea that comes to mind, there is sufficient grund around Castell Dolbadarn for perhaps a 'Rememberance Garden of Trees', in memory of these children of the native dynasties who became the ''disappeared ones'' as Edward's final soloution to the troublesome Royal Dynasties of 'Brenhinol Cymru'.
.
An idea worthy of thinking of, that may become an Initiative worthy of discussion at any Dolbadarn Commemoration held this year. It is a sad matter to remember that Dafydd and family were taken prisoner and handed over to the English by Welsnmen - 'men of his own tounge' but keep in mind and remember, not all were so trecherous as it is recorded that Goronwy ap Heilin remained a loyal supporter to the end and died a rebel. His son Llywelyn ap Goronwy was also to remain a rebel untill capture and then imprisoned and further fate unknown. Thus was to come to conclusion the final chapter in the story of the last war of Welsh Independnce 1282 - 83, I say it's worthy of rememberance and commemoration. Unfortunatly I cannot organise, neither is there a Cofiwn to do so. However, surely there are a number of Gwynedd patriots who are up to this task, let me know if there are and I shall inform in this blog that a commemoation and even a Rememberance Garden is being seriously considered and needs support.
